Business Member Board of Governors (BMBG)

The Business Member Board of Governors is responsible for directing and establishing activities for APTA's Business Members and developing policy recommendations to APTA's Executive Committee and Board of Directors which represent the interests of all Business Members.

Their objectives include encouragement of greater Business Member participation in APTA; development of better communication between governmental bodies and APTA Business Members; and providing APTA with continuing support in its efforts to represent the public transit industry.

2011 BMBG Nominations and Election

The 25 members of the BMBG are elected to two-year terms on the Board. Current members can seek reelection to the Board. The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2011 election was June 24, 2011. Additionally, nominations for vice chair were solicited through August 15, 2011, to fill the position that will become vacant when Michael Melaniphy becomes President of APTA.

The BMBG nominations committee will publicize the slate of nominees in accordance with the BMBG bylaws after they conclude their deliberations.

The BMBG election will take place at the General Meeting of APTA’s business members on Sunday October 2, 2011, in New Orleans in conjunction with the 2011 APTA EXPO and Annual Conference.

The members of the 2011 BMBG nominations committee include John Bartosiewicz, Huelon Harrison, Linda Bohlinger, and Jeffrey Wharton. Sharon Greene, immediate past chair of the BMBG, chairs the committee.

BMBG Meetings

The BMBG meets three times per year in conjunction with major APTA meetings and also holds a three-day annual business meeting in January to set its direction for the coming year.

BMBG meetings are open to all APTA business members and their attendance and participation is welcome and appreciated.  The agenda for the meetings varies but is generally focused on issues about doing business in the transit industry and APTA programs that support private sector involvement in the industry.

One important component of the BMBG program is support for APTA’s transit advocacy efforts.  Through the business member activity fund, business members have provided the industry with a number of important publications that highlight the important benefits of investments in public transportation.
